Karen DiCostanzo

Certified Professional Dog Trainer, Master Trainer

A lifelong animal lover, Karen believes strongly in the power of the human-animal bond when two-way communication and real understanding exists. She discovered this firsthand in 2001 when she rescued her very first dog. His separation distress prompted her to begin learning all she could about dog training and behavior to help her furry friend.

She rescued a second dog in 2009 who prompted her to learn a lot more about canine behavior! Her large, active boy nearly drove her crazy with reactivity, lunging and pulling on the leash, jumping all over people, chasing cats, and more, so she definitely feels her clients’ pain!

Working through these behavioral challenges was the starting point for her eventually becoming a professional dog trainer and behavior consultant in 2013. Today, she shares her insights with those who want to deepen their shared bonds of love, trust, and understanding with their pets while working toward their dog training and behavior modification goals. Her modern, holistic approach has helped several hundred people dramatically improve the lives they share with their companion dogs.

Karen currently shares her home with a Golden Retriever, Sunny. He is an excellent instructor in teaching her more about animal communication signals, manners, cooperative care, and more. Karen completed her graduate degree in 2003 and is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA). She is also a Certified Fear Free Professional and is currently enrolled in the Karen Pryor Academy Dog Training Professional program to become a certified clicker trainer.

Christian

DogSchool Office Manager

Christian is the voice on the other end of the line.  If you’ve scheduled a service at the DogSchool then you’ve most likely talked to Christian.   He keeps the DogSchool running by scheduling new and returning clients, returning voice mails, and handling back of house operations such as payroll and coming up with new class offerings.

Christian is also licensed as a Realtor in the state of Kansas.  It was his expertise that secured the DogSchool’s current home!  Not only can he answer your service related questions, he can also help you buy or sell your next home in Johnson County or surrounding areas.

Having two essentially full time careers doesn’t leave a lot of extra time but never-the-less Christian still manages to make time for his favorite form of stress relief: Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.  A BJJ black belt, Christian teaches evening classes at both Spring Hill Jiu Jitsu, in Spring Hill, KS; and at Brazil Academy in Lenexa, KS.  He’s always available to answer student question, coach them through a new technique, or referee in the many tournaments that are held locally throughout the year!
